  FAQ

  • Is my child too young to start formal piano tuition?
The earliest age I suggest beginning formal piano tuition is around 6 years old or in year 1 at school. In my experience children of a younger age really benefit from musicial group tuition and exploring music and instruments through 'play' learning. I recommend "Blackbird Early Year Music' in the Bristol area. Every child is different however and if you would like to try a lesson for your 5 or even 4 year old. Please don't hestitate to get in touch.
  • Am I too old to begin learning the piano?
Absolutely not! I especially enjoy teaching adults.
  • Is 1/2 hour long enough for a weekly lesson?
Yes. Your weekly lesson must be long enough to include a warm-up, a recap and listen to the previous week's content and practice and a progression onto new content with instructions for the next week's practice. Lessons will include many other elements of fun (!) introduction to new techniques and guidance through problems but practice time is saved for inbetween lessons. You can't hope to master an instrument by attending the lessons alone. Practice makes perfect! Students preparing for lengthy performances or high grade exams may consider extending lesson times to 45 mins or 1 hour.
  • Can I have fornightly lessons rather than weekly?
Yes. I appreciate that some of us have very busy lives and 1 week inbetween lessons is just not enough time to practice or that some of us are on a tight budget. Whatever your reasons I am happy to teach ad hoc lessons outside of my normal business hours. Lessons that are not a weekly commitment are arranged on a lesson by lesson basis to suit both myself and student.
  • What is the cost?
    My hourly rate currently for Sept 2023 is £41 per hour. 1/2 hour = £20.50 45 mins = £30.75
